The New Improved FAQ
Hello and welcome to thisaintnews, known colloquially round these parts as TAN. If you're new here you probably have some questions; here are some (we assume) are asked with greatest frequency:
1. WTF IS THIS SHIT?
This Ain't News is a social news site that caters specifically for the pirate demographic. The full spectrum of political opinion is represented, from far left, to far right to far meh, all united by shared disdain for intellectual property rights. The site was created by n0body (AKA mrbig) as a refuge for ex-users of the now defunct shoutwire.com, after it became clogged up with fail. A more concise history of all this can be found somewhere (I think bulshoy wrote it all down once).
For those of you completely new to the concept of a social news site, this is basically a place for people to share and discuss links to news items, places of interest from around the internet and to indiscriminately troll the fuck out of each other for lulz.
2. HOW DOES IT WORK?

Before you can submit anything/leave comments, you must first register here. It cost nothing to join but donations to the upkeep of the site are appreciated. Once logged in you're free to begin contributing as you see fit. Submit a link, a funny picture or video. Write your own content in the blog section, share your thoughts in a forum post, start a poll or just stir up some shit in a comment thread.
Users can rate each others contributions via the IS NEWS/AINT NEWS (TIN/TAN) buttons. Submissions deemed polular are promoted to the front page under a system that no one quite understands. Something to do with maths...
3. BLOGS/FORUMS: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Blogs are expected to adhere to certain standards. Submissions to the blog section must be:
1. Original (NO copypasta shit!)
2. At least 200 words
3. Coherent
Anything that fails to meet these criteria should be posted in Forums. Submissions to the blog section deemed to be unfit will be moved to the forum section by the admins.
4. HOW DO I EMBED VIDEOS?

To embed a video in a comment, use the following tags:

(URL refers to the URL of the video in question) For example:

5. WHAT ARE THE RULES?

This is a fairly libertarian affair and as such there really aren't many rules. Free speech is king so feel free to say whatever you want in the comment threads. Obviously though, there need to be some lines that can't be crossed:
1. No illegal images whatsoever
2. Remember to mark NSFW images as NSFW
3. Avatars must be SFW
4. No spam. Spam & Spammers will deleted swiftly so don't even bother. The admin team are based in several different timezones so there is no escaping our gaze.
5. IRC business stays in IRC.
Having said that all are welcome to join the chatroom, if you have any further questions someone in there will offer answers (or just troll you relentlessly)
Please enjoy your stay
