Barb was a well-known anti-smoking activist, mostly due to her suffering from smoking-related lung cancer. She succumbed to the disease in 2003, at 42 years of age. The alarming photo shows her on her deathbed with the caption "This is what dying of lung cancer looks like".
Fun fact: she spoke at my junior high but I don't remember her at all. I guess it worked though, never lit up in my life. Never will. Ick.
