I need a new back-to-school laptop and figured I'd ask my favourite geeks :) and before you go there, no I am not buying some $3500 alienware thing just because you think it's cool... and no, I'm not 'a mac person'... I think they're overpriced and their layout is nonsense. I'm looking for the ultimate school laptop, so budget isn't much of an issue, though I'd rather keep it under $1000 unless I *love* it. Above all it's gotta be lightweight, thin, and durable but still have a CD/DVD tray. Should have Win7 and be faster than my Acer AspireOne, which sets the bar low (lol). Tons of memory isn't crucial. Graphics don't have to be gaming quality, just good enough for some movies/porn. So, I'll poll the brand-names and take suggestions in the comments. Thanks guys (and tuoni)!
Security researcher Charlie Miller, widely known for his work on Mac OS X and Apple's iOS, has discovered an interesting method that enables him to completely disable the batteries on Apple laptops, making them permanently unusable, and perform a number of other unintended actions. The method, which involves accessing and sending instructions to the chip housed on smart batteries could also be used for more malicious purposes down the road.

Laptop, cell phone and iPod owners tired of having their devices run out of charge after a few hours have been patiently waiting for the next portable power source to arrive.
Tiny fuel cells, powered by combustible liquids or gasses, have long been touted as the eventual solution. Potentially, they could power a laptop for days between refills.
