The latest Times/Populus survey (£) is the most striking poll we've seen for months. It gives Labour a 15-point advantage over the Tories (45 to 30), the largest lead that any pollster has shown for the party in this parliament. If repeated on a uniform swing at a general election, those figures would send Ed Miliband to Downing Street with a majority of 136 seats. But there's a catch...
I've seen a lot of debate online about this topic lately. The majority of the accounts I've read throw around the phrase "genital mutilation". Militant mothers with in-tact sons feel they need to fight to increase society's awareness about the frivolity and abuse that is circumcision: we consider female circ an abuse, it's an antiquated anti-sex/masturbation tactic, why do harm infringing on nature's will? The few and feeble that I've seen take a pro-circ stance usually say they weren't informed at the time of their child's birth and thought it was the norm, chose circumcision for religious reasons, had their child circumcised for aesthetic reasons (so he looks the same as his daddy), or believe it aids in keeping male genitals cleaner and less prone to infection.
I've seen a lot of female word-vomit and ire about the topic, and I'm left wondering: what do TAN's males think?

Last week, while sharing despair at Twitter throwing itself into another frenzy over a crossbreak of less than fifty respondents Sunder Katwala suggested to me that it might be a good idea to put together a post summarising the things not to do when writing about polls. I thought that was a good idea. This probably isn’t the sort of post Sunder was thinking of – I expect he envisaged something shorter – but nevertheless, here’s how NOT to report opinion polls.
I just need the code for a non ended poll.
All this suggests the budget has not gone down well. What remains to be seen now is whether there is any real knock to voting intention once we’ve got some more polls to judge by (as ever, one should never put too much weight on one poll) and, if so, whether it lasts once the immediate negative coverage of the budget fades.

The poll was conducted straight after the census last year and sought to identify people who described themselves as Christian in the census and measure in more detail what their actual religious beliefs were. Unsurprisingly it found they were not universally very religious.
