you are indeed paranoid and silly. while google operates several different services, i hardly believe them to be the only ones who are tracking you. they are able to profile you a whole lot more than being a member of different services, but still it can't be that much harder to create a profile of you from your cookies or regular tracking of either keys or traffic. your only solution, my good man, is to go TOR fulltime.

i suppose i've slightly accepted the fact that i'm trackable, and would disconnect from the web properly if the time comes by cutting off the isp and move somewhere else. that way, without internets, i'm also without an ip, and can only be tracked by the police or a p.i. or someone else following me around. my smartphone's mostly disconnected anyway, thus the only trackability i have is from gsm towers as long as my phone is on and/or with me!~

stop being paranoid and think for a moment that google isn't only evil, but also trying to make your every day slightly more american by bringing the services to you so you can sit at home and eat mcwhoppers!~ and they don't decide what is better for you. if you don't know how to find what you want and leave it up to google to decide your daily entertainment routine you will be watching reruns of the hills before you can say big brother and the holding company!

I thought that most of users are connected through some form of DHCP, which leases dynamic IP's, or it's private space IP number making it impossible to track who exactly was connected to internet under particular IP.

MAC addresses that uniquely identify hosts do not leave LANs.

Now if you have account with your name on it, which is converged with youtube, search engine and email, they pretty much know you.

When google saved searches of people, to improve their service, without personalizing the search or seeking to find out who exactly did the search, it was ok. The result was we were getting the page to which most of people who searched for particular word went.

When google tracks your emails, videos you watch and your searches, all under one account, which is IRL associated ( you give your email to other people and they know it's your email ), then it is different.

It's Facebook, only worse.

Essentially it means that if google worker knows your name and finds your email account, which is usually user's name, then he will be able to tell if you ever searched for "brazilian fart porn" online and what videos do you like and everything you have ever said on youtube.

Yes, you are paranoid, but also it does kind of make sense. I think the point is that most people do not recognize that every fucking thing they type into Google is saved. This is how Google makes money! This is one the one hand pretty insane, on the other hand, it does give us as global citizens the benefit of access to all the information we can possibly wish for, be it actively steered by Google to maximize their profit.
My concern is that this private data can be collected by companies and sold to governments. For instance, the Dutch government even refused to agree upon a law that bans foreign companies to collect and sell private information to anyone (basically because that would result in too much trouble, Google being almighty and whatnot).
If you want to be paranoid, you surely could have your reasons, which seem to be real. I personally can attest to this. Even without Google, all internet-traffic is analysed by filters that capture certain patterns. Multiple layers of such systems exist all around the world and hundreds of thousands of people worldwide earn their living analyzing some of the data that passes trough some of these layers. I think this should be more widely recognized by global citizens just to make them aware that in case it is required, you should be able to protect yourself from the gathering of information on your personal internet sessions by whatever entity. If shit turns sour like it has many times in the history of the world, know what not to do.

what i was getting at, is that i sincerely believe google are not the only ones doing this, but only the ones who has the most accessibility. seeing as you're not quitting the internets any time soon, means that anyone who wants to track you can track you somehow, only not as effectively as google does. trojans and what-they're-called, other tracker technology, etc.

why do some people seem to think that google's the only evil here? there are many evils using the web to find out who you are. the entertainment industry, remember them? they can properly ruin your life. if i could choose between the two, i'd rather have some google nerd running through my porn habits than having someone waiting for me to break a law (perhapse even unknowingly breaking it) and then proceed to fuck me over. sadly the future reality seems to combine these two..!

If anyone takes my name and googles it, result is hundreds of pages of some mechanical engineering professor in Lithuania who has the same name. My IP address is assigned by DHCP and it changes with time. If anyone wanted to find out exactly what was my IP at particular time was (if my ISP keeps a track of IPs leased), they would have to go through court and police to make my ISP disclose that information (if they have it in the first place).

As for google - I am saying it, because they have the capability and they did it.

If you like it, if it works for you - use google account. I am not touching it.

Indeed, ISP's do not provide this information. However, the backbone of the internet is constantly monitored by the echelon, so whenever required, all your queries can be traced no matter what. This is what governments do in secrecy and thats also kind of ugly. But to get back to the Google discussion (and add Facebook and Twitter and whatnot to that), my concern is that in certain moments in time, certain companies do not hesitate a moment to cooperate with governments and give them full access. In the UK, Bell telecom is very much open to government agencies.T-Mobile also is not that difficult about it, relatively low-level tech-employees being able to track, intercept and alter text-messages (making infiltration is very easy). Also, since many people now walk around with Google in their pocket, it gets even more personal.
When things get rough and the need for a Stasi-like intelligence agency is increasing, more and more boundaries will be crossed, and given the technology available for agencies to actively and secretly track our every move or spoken word, this is actually becoming potentially very dangerous.
One example from recently was that RIM (Blackberry) decided to provide the London police with text (and I believe also location) logs of people in order to track where the London riots originated and who were involved. While in this riot, the people responsible should be found and punished, this way of obtaining information is ridiculous.
