The Fallen Kingdom of Shoutwire,
We are, it seems, at war. I was searching for an historical example of a situation analagous to our own when, whilst re-reading George Orwell's Homage To Catalonia it hit me: This is the Spanish Civil War. Tubearoo are Franco's fascists, intenting on destroying all that is good for their own nefarious aims, whilst the loyal Shoutwire staff/users, are the Republicans and Communists intent on maintaining the bourgeois status quo. We, my friends are the Anarchists. We are the motherfucking Durruti Column and noone can touch us. Except unlike the anarchists of revolutionary Spain, we are actually going to win.
They mock us on those Shoutwire threads. They say we don't have the users to pull this off. They say our threads lack comments. All true of course. But this is just the beginning. Besides, at least this site fucking works and is many ways, already superior. We must build on this success.
So with that, I offer some helpful suggestions to get the ball rolling:
- Fix the IE Problem: If it were up to me, the world would use Firefox but it's just not possible for some of us at work. Believe me, those are my core Shoutwire hours and it breaks my heart that I can only look but not touch during this time. I could be contributing so much more to this site.
- Raise the Promotion Shout threshold: Three is too little with the expanding user base, articles are being pushed off the FP too quickly now, perhaps it's time to raise it to five.
- Categories: It is a well extablished fact that SW had Over 9000 categories, all of them useless and made of fail. Politics, Science, Entertainment and WTF? Do we really need anymore than that? No, four categories and a filter that actually works would be just fine.
- Moar Users: I don't see the people here that need to be here. Where are they. Get them! You know who I mean, i don't even need to mention names.
