Hey kids, here's how I make the blog, if you have any suggestions on improvements, features, etc, etc, please let me know. kthxbye.
Here's how I go about creating the blog I know some of you enjoy. I have specially formatted Excel and Word files (more one these later) which I use to store the data and convert it to the blog post you are familiar with. As often as I can, I try to go to the various release sites to see what is new out on the high seas of the internets. The sites I look at are:The SitesRLSLog - currently down due to ISP and host issues, they say they're working on it.OneDDL - Direct downloads through sites like Rapidshare and Hotfile. I tend to use this as a reference and find the torrent versions.IRFree - similar to OneDDL, just started using this one.and the ones I have only glanced at:Torrent Plaza, Scene Releases, FlixFlux, and NewTorrents.
Selecting Titles
So, I look through to see if there is anything that may interest you guys, but since most of you are illiterate degenerates, I just pick most of what's out there. When looking at the 360 games just about anything will go on the list. When looking at PC games, I'll add the better known titles, or the "small" games that are not the "hidden" item or shit you might see on some social networking site. Some of these can be fun and are usually made so that people like mmateri can play them. As for movies I will take anything with an IMDB rating of 5 or higher, unless it has a big name actor in it or is supposed to be a "blockbuster." As for those titles that don't have a rating yet, they get the flip of a coin. Seriously. Sometimes I will add in titles from the "best of" list that I keep, your suggestions, or articles like "the 7 best sci-fi movies you should see."
Data EntryThis is the rough part for me, since this is pretty much what I do at work now, but spreading it over a few days sure helps, plus, now I can do part of it from the couch. Usually the posts on those pages have almost everything I need. I go through the posts and do a lot of right-click, copy link location, ctrl+v. A lot. Here is the basic format of the Excel file I use:
| Type |
Title |
|
Pic |

Info |

I can't figure out how to make this thing show the divider lines, but you get the idea. Just follow the column titles. I put the type (360, PC, Movie, Screen, TV), title, a reasonable pic (sometimes from the post, sometimes via google images), a link to the info (for movies it's almost always IMDB, sometimes rotten tomatoes), the link (usually from Torrentz, or a DDL if applicable), and then some comments about it. In between the data columns is a narrow little column with just a apostrophe " ' " in it. This makes the lengthy links I paste stay in their column and not over-flow into the following data column. After, this listing gets stored in a new tab to save for the monthly recap.
The ConversionNow comes the easy part, I have Word convert the data into the HTML coding needed to display the posts. I use the Mail Merge feature to pull the data from the Excel list and turn it into a list of code I can just copy and paste. Here's the template (with merge codes highlighted):
<hr /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="«Info»" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank" title="Info">
<span style="font-size: xx-large;">«Title» («Type»)</span><br /><br />
<img width="300" src="«Pic»"></a><br />
<a href="«Link»" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank" title="Click it bitches.">Link</a> <br />«Comments»<br /></div><hr />
This is the culmination of many posts (originally done one at a time in this crappy editor). As you can see it was pretty easy to accommodate the request to make links open in a new window, and I am a little proud of the image sizing, which constrains the width for all to be equal, and automatically makes the height proportional.
Wrap UpAfter the list gets posted into the HTML part of the TAN post editor I go through and check to see if there any bad pics and I check a few random links to see if I didn't past anything in the wrong spot. That's about it. Exciting, I know, but the mindless work is therapeutic and I do it for my love of TAN.
Well, if any of you have any suggestions on how I can make this work better, different sites, things you would like to see, features, etc, please put them in the comments. The reason for this blog is one of those requests. Can anyone see a way to easily incorporate a division between categories (TV, Movie, etc)? I was thinking I could come up with some wide image banner things, post them in the pic section, and when I get to the "Wrap Up" section I can paste them in, but if you guys have a better idea, I would love to hear it.And now, for you appreciation in reading this, here are some boobies: (click pics for more of the same)
