blah
bitch
So I've been at war with my manager since about two weeks ago when I just stopped tolerating her shit. She validates her position by being a pedantic bitch. Anyway she says to me today.... 'You should stop trying to be an excellent accountant and realise you are average like the rest of us. I nearly fell of my chair.
This tells me two things:
1. She knows that she will never be any better than a manager.
2. She is keeping me down on purpose.
Fuck it. Time to find a new job. Did you ever hit a glass ceiling before? what did you do about it?
On a side note, I hit a ceiling working for a corporation once, and I made an extra effort to work hard at...bangin the area manager. It helped that she was a hot bitch. Anyway, promotion ensued. So there's always that.

This may conflict with the standard "Office Etiquette" manual - but screw it...

I have to agree with you. I tell you another thing, I'd much rather work with men too. You'd think women would stick together and have each others back, but in most cases, especially in office situations, they're horrible. Evil, nasty and horrible to one another. I hate gossip and BS and just want to be able to do my job and not be bothered, but if you don't join them, your against them.

Slow-go, trying to get sacked with redundancy.
In your case it's what manager wants you to do, so ... what's the problem ?

Ambition leads to great butthurt.
I'm pretty sure master Yoda or someone wise said that.

lol wolffe thinking getting laid is having the "moves", when it's really something most male adults can do. But I suppose that's nothing strange, comin from someone who can't even get whores to fuck him.

I have worked for 5 women and 2 men. Both the men were dickholes whereas 4/5 of the women were really cool.
Not exactly sure what it means statistically but the women seem to be a lot easier to deal with in my experience

It largely depends on if they are competitive or empathetic, and although one shouldn't generalise ... they are certain trends.
Unfortunately, due to cultural pressures males tend to be aggressive, competitive go-getters and much more likely to be arrogant arseholes. Feminists also often fall into this category, because "women can do whatever a man can do," including being a short-sighted bastard. Females tend to be emphathetic. Rather than focusing on personal gain and career advancement, they tend to focus more on welfare and reflection.
But it all boils down to their personality, whatever the gender: competitive or empathetic.
Culture and society is changing, and consequently also gender roles and pressures. Sadly, it's been more towards greater aggression and competitiveness, rather than empathy and reflection.

and beelz, i can't comment on the glass ceiling, i'm in school, we all know this. BUT. when i do inevitably hit a glass ceiling after working for a few years in my field, i will go back to school. i will repeat this cycle until i am the boss. i think it's a solid plan of attack. at least in the legal world. probably the accounting/financial world too.

The last thing anyones superior should say is that their staff is shit and will never do better. You're supposed to motivate your staff to work hard and do better.
I was seriuosly pissed off after that comment but I've decided it is time to move on for other reasons.
1. It feels like I'm walking into a cemetery when I walk in to work - that just aint right
2. I cant do anything right. As an accountant you have to make choices between alternatives. However of the two choices I am given both are wrong. I have realised it's completely irrelevant which choice I make as the only relevant part is that the manager can put it in a reviewpoint (ie validate her time on the job). If a job goes through review with no reviepoints the manager is useless right???
3. When either of the two women bosses above me are having a bad day everything is incorrect when they're having a good day everything is correct. That rules out about 3/4 of the days every month as shit.
4.I'm expected to meet 75% productive time. In order for the manager and partner to meet their productivity goals their unproductive work gets shifted to me and then I get yelled at for not meeting productivity targets.
5. If a job is done productively and on time then the manager extends her time on reviewing my job (hence the rediculous reviewpoints) to bring her time in the job up and write off my time.
6. The manager's a bitch with a very low EQ. The amount of highly offensive things she says (to everyone) on a daily basis is unbelieveable.
7. The instructions those above me give me are incredibly vague and becoming worse by the day. I have to guess just what the hell they are trying to say, guess what the hell they want me to do about it, and then sit and wait appropriately for my ass kicking. Fuck that shit.
For those that dont know accountants do 'workpapers' which is essentially notes to ourselves explaining why we did something. Nobody else sees the workpapers except the accountant working on the job and then they go in for record to show why decisions were made. The kind of things I have been picked up for on an internal workpapers are:
- I wrote $1,200 instead of $1,200.00
- Missing a capital letter in a expense category
- other shit like that which is difficult to explain you get the idea i take it.
These sort of things should be noted and corrected next year - they're not something worth adding another $500 to the clients bill to go back and fix up. If I do spend the time to reprint the workpapers - sure it looks nice but seriously? $0 added and 2 hours wasted.
Yes I should be more carefull, no it is not possible (for anyone) to do a job without a few minor errors. I guarantee any job done by any accountant has at least 1-2 errors in it and if the error is only a ugly workpaper then you're pretty damn lucky. I've done a few jobs that my bitch manager did last year and oh my fucking god they are half fucking wrong and I'm talking about the actual figures not just that she forgot .00 on the ass end of 1200 bucks.

I'm not the only one. They do a annonymous smiley survey every month of employees. Last month 40% unhappy, 40% happy, 20% indifferent. Thats definitely not a healthy workplace. The firm has a extremely high staff turnover and one other has just left and at least two others are on the verge of leaving.
Tell me how you would feel if you have for the past 2 years gone to a job knowing that no matter what you do it isnt right. There is no right. Seriously if I am that fucking bad fire me already.
[quote user=DigitalAntichrist] ^ Are you suggesting that a paradigm shift is required? Maybe all he needs to do is change job.

agreed.

seen it. considered it. weighed up the alternatives between a nice cushy jail cell and work and didnt see much difference. Didnt do it for moral reasons.

You should have posted all that in the first place, that's a lot different than a bitch being a bitch. It seems more than a clash of personalities, really. There could be something you don't know, maybe there's lay-offs on the cards, she might not have the balls to fire you so she's tryin to make you leave. I had a friend that went through a similar situation working with mainly women and he was basically bullied into leaving.
I don't really know what you should do, but I do know what it's like walking into work and feeling like it's just wrong, like you can't do anything right and when you say anything about it they come up with mildly relative but mostly bullshit reasons for why it's your fault. Thing is, how long do you stick it out? Until it makes you ill? Until you snap and tell them to fuck off? I woke up one Monday morning too often with a sinking feeling, dreading going into work so I started looking for a new job and handed my notice in that day. Money's nice, and all but you have to draw the line somewhere. I dunno about there, but here you'd have a pretty good case for constructive dismissal.

I gotta juggle work 8:30 to 5, I havnt told the bosses I'm leaving yet (was kinda gonna have a new job first) and seriuosly... I need to put in huge amounts of time into exam prep before the exam. The CA (Chartered Accountant) exams are incredibly difficult and if I fail it will look bad for future job prospects as well. Work should be a tiny bit more bareable after christmas holidays so I should be able to survive a few months if needs be and there's only two weeks of work left during which I'll be in a haze of exam prep anyway.

Thats exactly what I will do. Unfortunately I have to add those two pesky letters C.A. after my name and have several years experience to become registered with the tax office... I have to deal with these idiots at least another year or two. Hopefully the new manager will be less idiotic.
Edit: sounds like we have the same problem.
