Just got a new computer, have it connected to my 47" samsung flatscreen via cheap hdmi cable and theres a constant screen flicker, why? Any ideas? I MUST PLAY WOW IN HI DEF NAO :(
Change that crappy HDMI cable. Go buy a shielded 1.4c Shielded cable. I recommend this:

Oh and in the computer graphics properties make sure you have the refresh rate and resoution maxed out, and the correct drivers installed for your card. BTW what is your card?
You US based?

Is it 3d ready? If so, save up and get yourself an nvidia 3d pack!
I've updated my drivers, maxed out rez and refresh rate with no success. Must be the cable. Thanks fellas. And proof, not sure if its 3d ready, but regardless I hate 3d lol. Bugs my eyes out.
^I agree, but then after a period of use the wear causes degradation. Monster comes with a lifetime guarantee. For economy and quality buy Cablesson

Sorry but that has to be a fucking joke. £136 for a HDMI cable?!
Two things causing this problem, refresh rate or a resolution being used that the TV doesn't support. Nothing more!
First page I come across on the issue, but this has been thoroughly debunked.
Come on, you guys are supposed to be techies. What gives?

I know buddy but think of it this way, even when you plug the computer to a 4k2k screen this cable will handle it perfectly. £136 is a bit steep. But like I've always said, you get what you pay for.
Man, I'd love to bump into you if I worked at Currys.
remember that windows isn't "HD" so the same settings for your card when it runs in hd mode will probably only be around 30hz.
you need to pick a screen res that you can do 60 or more,,,and when you run a movie, the program your running,,or the ATI catalyst driver should switch over your screen rez for the movie
now
i had the exact same problems,,,and i couldn't get it fix until i did a whole reinstall of windows...after that it ran like a champ, even tho i was using the exact same drivers and settings
there was something about switching from a monitor that didnt do HD to one that did that windows didnt like. it was even messing with my sound because the videos in standard would run fine, but HD vids would crash the sound.
so this could be any number of software problems from drivers, down to video codecs. and we use so many, there is no telling which one is giving you fits.
my bet is software, not a cable problem
the difference from a $5 hdmi cable and a gold plated solid core, super derper nanites, that cost $75, is how dumb the customer is.

Debunked how? Those guys performed simple set up tasks, not ultra definition examples. Look, you use these cheap cables after a year or so they degrade and you'll notice the black areas in the images becoming lighter and poorer contrasting. Not to mention audio problems.
I know this shit first hand. No-one is paying me to tell you this stuff either, unlike the debunking posse. I agree, you don't need to dish out on an expensive cable. If its a simple set up then you'll be fine with simple shielded set.

The gold plated cables are use specific, they are meant for long runs over 12m, anything under that, there is absolutely no difference in quality.
I did resistance tests on a 1m and 10m cable, and there was barely 100 milliohms difference. The 12m cable was a full ohm difference and the 15m was over 3 ohms difference.
The acoustic research 3m copper core was the exact same resistance value as the $125.00 3m gold plated monster 1000

Bullshit. I have a 10 dollar Philips HDMI on my downstair's Satellite receiver, picture is still beautiful as it was the day I got all of it, which is over 4 years ago, and that fucker runs just for background noise, so it's on nearly all the time.
Are you sure it's not just your plasma TV burning phospors? lol
720x480 @ 60Hz
1280x720 @ 60z (some have luck with 1366x768 if it's only a 720p tv, LG's and Samsungs for instance, Sharp and Panasonic do not)
1920x1080 @ 60/120hz (120hz if vid card supports it, very rare as there aren't many games in the 120hz format)
If you have Nvidia, you can use your control panel to to tell the driver it's a TV, and it will limit it to D1 resolutions only. I haven't played with it much using ATI's CCC
We have a cheap 32" "Vistoron" TV from ebuyer.com that has a Samsung panel, Sharp electronics, etc. It's rated for 1366x768. Yet if we use that resolution it looks utter shite (The PS3 and Xbox look fine @ 720p, and using a VGA cable for the Xbox 1366x768 looks fine) 1920x1080 has parts missing from the desktop but is clear. So I have to use this scaling feature in the CP to scale it down to around 1700x900, which then looks fine. I've read that it's an NV problem with their scaling and some super old driver works fine (but that driver won't support my ION Geforce 9400 chipset, lawl).
Now I'm sure if the TV straight up support 1080p this wouldn't be a problem, but it has serious issues displaying at the "rate" resolution.
Back to the topic at hand, I'm with Proofin on this. Also, mate was it you that wanted the server key?
WoW sucks.
