I've had this since 2010, it aint flashy like apple but it aint steve jobs dick in your mouth either.
Considering TAN isn't very big, I think its significant that 3 TANers have samsung phones and seem to be pleased.

texting is shit. if it's not an i phone i'd suggest something w/ a keyboard, for sure.

If price were important I'd have mentioned it as a factor - I mentioned the camera being decent for that reason, it's an important factor.
To everyone else, the Samsung options are looking interesting.

Samsung was my second option. I don't know about tablets, androids and whatnot, but even back when I was looking at a classic phone, most of the reviews were very fond of Samsung. There were some models that had serious problems and definitely not worth the money, but if you make sure to chose carefully, Samsung is probably quite a good option. My third option would have been an LG, more expensive, but they had some cool models.
Meh, not having used Samsung — nor any real smartphone — my opinion is fairly useless :/

I'm pretty clueless with regard to mobile phones, the one I have is a basic nokia supplied by my employer, and the g/f has an ancient sansung d500 or something which has started to flake out on her, but it's lasted her about 6 years, i think... tbh, i don't want to spend anything more than £400 if at all possible, but I can stretch to about £600. The question is, is it worth spending that amount of money given the speed at which these things seem to become relatively obsolete... :/

What you really need to think about is do you need it? Figuring out in more detail what you really need and what is unnecessary luxury, it should be easier to select a phone.
Required functionality, and intended use.
My needs were quite simple: a classic design with music player, separate line out (none of that shitty integrated charging/headphones), and memory card slot. Nokia 6370 Classic, 163 GPB. Good deal! And I couldn't give a shit about the people bragging about their iphones and androids, I don't need it.

50% faster.
0.5" bigger screen.
Higher resolution (480p vs 720p).
Screen is better quality and will last longer than the S2's and won't suffer burn in (which I had on my S2 within a year, basically made selling it pointless).
[quote user=Sleep] samsung galaxy nexus is the only phone to buy.

You can stick ICS on the S2.
