I noted that for the regular blocks just showing features for sections would use bigs' current algorithm and would just be some simple sql fetches from each respective section and the highest one according to bigglez algorithm would be displayed in each box.
I also had an idea for a Feature of the Week or Month or Day, or whatever, that would be above the right hand blocks, and sort of push content around it. I know that might require some more extensive changes to the current code, but it'd be a nice idea. I didn't put that in my idea because I literally forgot. It would look close to the other feature blocks, but be about 25% - 33% bigger, "pushing" content around it like simple div margins and alignment. It doesn't have to be at the top of the features, either, we could put it at the top of the content block next to the tin-tan buttons so it doesn't make too much work in completely redoing the code for the main content div.
This one would be manually picked, and would simply be adding two fields to the database table that holds the content, such as "Feature" and "Feature Date". Bigglez can check mark the article, and the database would have a "1" recorded in Feature, and the date Big clicked the feature box. That way he can do a simple sql fetch that orders all features by feature=1 and newest date, so the newest feature is always displayed.
Also the top black bar was a floating bar, meaning it would scroll down the page with you as you read. The section links would be moved there (and I really think they need to be changed, something like simple drop down menus or possibly adding some flair to them) as well as the links on the top right. The user logon form could appear there if no cookie is present for thisaintnews.com, and if it is, a standard "Tally Ho, Username!" could be displayed.
Also this is something that has nothing to do with the design, I had an idea this morning about a TAN logo. Since we're all a community of dirty swine pirates, I was thinking maybe "TAN" displayed in a style very close to Pennywise's logo, with This aint news below it clearly spelled out. it would be done in grungey form. It could look pretty sweet, I hope everyone can picture that in their mind. Here's the pennywise logo if nobody's seen it :
