TIN'd, although I would be VERY surprised if there wasn't more to the examples they mentioned. No one just gets their garden cut down for no reason.

Also, this is why I like TX. I can do whatever the hell I want on my land, and the government cant take it from me.

All that crap seems like municipal issues, probably not even close to that level. Probably just a couple of neighbors conspiring to give some non conforming bozo hell with whatever possible means. Edit: The government they are talking about here is most likely just scapegoat.

The second link is irrelevant. "reclaiming" vacant lots is property theft. If it's an eyesore, call code compliance. If you wanna buy it, look up who is supposed to be paying property taxes and make them an offer. Otherwise fuck off

Sounds like these are just people who don't take care of their lawns and have their neighbors report them.  If the city comes and tears out your trees or vegetable garden, they probably look to be growing wild, and onto other people's property.

When I was a kid, the neighbors liked to report me to the city when I'd do a half-assed job mowing the lawn.  They'd send someone to look, maybe measure the height of the grass along the fence, and eventually mail us a letter.

I never heard of the term "prepper" before, but they sound like a group who always thinks everyone is after them... when nobody really cares.  They just don't like neighbors bringing down property values. 

Sounds like a bunch of neurotic hippies being all flaily about "the man, mannn". Granted we're living in 1984, but there's no sense having a big tantrum if your garden's such a fucking mess that some administrators feel the need to demolish the land. There are better things to whine about... or instead of bitching and protesting, you could put your effort into planting a garden that doesn't look like diarrhea.

Some of those ads on the side of the article look awwwfully familiar. Where have I seen those before? Oh yes, I remember now.

"Preppers" are the survival shelter building, food hoarding, AR-15 carrying crowd. "Prepared" for 2012, Armegeddon or the zombie apocalypse, whichever comes first. The term may not be correct in the context of this article.

I noticed there is a show about "Preppers" by National Geographic.  Going by what I've read from NYT or Slate, it mainly pokes fun of extremists and tries to be funny.

However, it also sounds a bit sad the viewer is made to laugh at people with deep psychological problems.  At least one person highlighted by the show had their weapons confiscated by the State for clearly being mentally defective.
