WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has formally requested asylum in Ecuador, the country's Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino said.
Patino, speaking at a press conference in Quito, Ecuador, read from a statement that Assange was currently at Ecuador's embassy in London, England, where he formally requested asylum. Patino read a statement to reporters at a news conference in Quito. He took no questions.

character assassination is easier. they aren't going to drone bomb him or anything since they'd rather get all the documents he has first.

"According to published reports, the charges Sweden has lodged against Assange involve two different women. Their initial intention was reportedly to force Assange to take an HIV test. There are four charges: that on 14 August 2010 he committed "unlawful coercion" when he held complainant 1 down with his body weight in a sexual manner; that he "sexually molested" complainant 1 when he had condom-less sex with her after she insisted that he use one; that he had condom-less sex with complainant 2 on the morning of 17 August while she was asleep; and that he "deliberately molested" complainant 1 on 18 August 2010 by pressing his erect penis against her body."
I've done worse. It's a good fucking thing she had a sense of humor then, otherwise I'd be in sunny Ecuador myself.
Except i'm not famous so they would just kick me out of embassy, if I tried that shit.

But if you press your penis on the woman you slept with the day before, while at her house the next morning, then it's a weird sense of humor, not an assault really.
And if she presses charges after, then you clearly made mistake in your choice of partner altogether.

But yeah this thing Assange... WTF, if what you just said there is what happened then it should be thrown out of court. Unless they fell out that night, then that's just the normal course of things. What the fuck is a man supposed to do with that raging boner he has from watching his woman make the sandwiches the next day? How else is he supposed to indicate that he'd like a second round if not to playfully push that thing onto her thighs?!
As for the condom thing. Unless there was bruising in her cunt from where he forced his dick in her against her wishes then her apparently wishing him to use a condom is not the same as her wishing he HAD used a condom the next day.
Basically, these womens are being paid a lot of money to talk shit... on a subject that is no laughing matter, no less.

There has got to be more to it than than. Why would assange ask for asylum, when all the Swedes want to do is question him?

It's funny b/c some people (Wolffe) start by cheering Assange, sure of a conspiracy of the media / Government to block him.
Shanus then promotes a theory that Wikileaks is a CIA program, which seems to convince Wolffe, Cadpig, and I believe Otester.
Ed always hated Wikileaks, but not because he thought it was fake. He just supports Government secrecy, and seemed to equate the rather low-level leaked cables as equal to WW2 invasion plans.
I was just curious, because I know Assange is an extreme Libertarian, so I wondered why so many Conservatives seem to hate him so much. The information seems pretty reliable - over time, everything leaked has been proven legit, and we've eventually learned where it came from.

Thats why I hate wikileaks. I believe everything they've posted is the truth, or at least they think its the truth. But i think a certain level of secrecy is required to function as a government. Just think, how many secrets do you have that you keep from your family and friends?

According to Wikileaks, they filter out the really "bad" stuff for both their own "insurance", and to respect national security. The supposedly do it in joint collaboration with media outlets.
I like the idea that the information is "out there", and hope everything will one day be released - but I'm fine if time sensitive stuff is released when it isn't a direct risk to National Security. I don't know if Wikileaks is the best judge, but I think there needs to be some sort of rotating civilian oversight that the Government can't reach.
