I thought Australians and New Zealanders were like Americans and Canadians. Talked shit back and forth but got along fine for the most part.
yep, but australia sometimes loses to NZ, and almost always in Rugby, so there is more catty jealousy, bacause NZ is a tiny nation of 4M, and AU is a large landmass with a small to medium nation of 22M and are shithead ex convicts.

As for the medal tally thing well I think that is just paranoia on NZ behalf, all channel 9's results tables list 10 rows or less and in the case of less than 10 rows they do not scale the row height or font size. The graphics would be formatted in some kind of style file like how with LaTex you use .sty and then they would have the results in some kind of database which a script would pull from and publish automatically implementing the style file. That said they could change the style file to add an extra row but it would take time and would scale fonts and row heights which would be considered unprofessional, admittedly they could have originally scaled everything to fit 11 positions but 10 is a nice round number for listing results spread over multiple pages. In all I think dropping 10th position to add Australia is this most logical solution and what 9 have done throughout the Olympics, NZ being higher is interesting and noteworthy so this can be highlighted by the presenter. 9 also sometimes show the full medal count in which case they page though the results listing 1-10, 11-20 ect in which case Australia would only be on the second page. The article was written by a moron that doesn't understand how the graphics are implemented.

Sorry didn't mean to step on anyone's turf and thanks for allowing me to rant I was surrounded by a number of kiwis who kept smugly telling me how bad of a sport we are for this medal tally thing, okay sure we may be bad sports but if your are going to be smug then at least be accurate otherwise it becomes insufferable. Full credit to team GB for their performances and London for a great Olympics. And although I will most likely remain a lurking bum I will try update my profile. For what is worth I am a UniMelb student doing a Master of Science in Theoretical Particle Physics, although combining that information with my profile name gives you enough info to find my picture and personal email in the Directory so please don't spam me with verbose diatribes EricManning.

Also I like technology and playing around in FORTRAN, C++, Java, Perl, ect although it is largely just a hobby outside of Scientific programming for uni.
