Mosquitoes have the ability to "smell" the blood of their victim. They can tell if it's clean or carrying things they don't want (something as simple as low levels of protein, or too many of some vitamins like b12). Aboriginals up north generally take mosquitoes avoiding you as a sign of sickness, and start a sweat lodge session.
