Actually the problems in regards to huge corporate monopolies (including but not limited to healthcare) are down to the government (people as well for not being more vigilant over their government).
Corporations were originally banned almost outright in the US and getting a license to operate was incredibly difficult and proof of how they would serve the public was necessary, when slavery was banned, as corporations are classed as artificial people, they also got their freedom to wreak havoc, also taking control of the monetary supply into account (Federal Reserve) by the evil bankers (which own all the corporations) accelerated the problem. So really a socialist state gives you semi-protection from the corporations, but doesn't really solve the problem as the corporations will get into bed with the government and end up being the provider of the state care, realising this they are trying to implement "socialist" healthcare in America as they know they will be the sole providers.
Corporation = Individual profit without individual responsibility so you end up with an evil monopoly monster that will stop at nothing to get everything.
Simply ban the corporation (make individuals personally responsible), it then becomes government monopoly vs. free-market (can't have a true free-market with corporations around).
And the free-market will kick socialist ass any day of the week.

If you got pregnant you would get 8 months paid maternity leave (80% pay) and the mentally or physically retarded are taken extremely well care of, they are given jobs suitable for their needs and capabilities, a government pension and individual housing if they are deemed responsible enough to have one. The workers law (Arbeidsloven)

In most workplaces your pay will increase the more time you spend there and the higher your education and competence is.
