I've read a lot of things that suggested that the "elite" would bring about the destruction of all major religions and institute a new one, theirs. This religion would be secular humanism, where it basically worships intelligence & humans, implying that through the use of their intellect man would become as gods.
When I first heard about this stuff I laughed. But now as time goes on I see this secular humanism becoming more and more mainstream. Especially with the newer generations. Coincidence? I don't think so.

So whats wrong with that? The ultimate endgame for an intellignet, tool-using, life-form would be to be able to control not matter, but energy, simply trough thought. As we shape our environment to fit us, so shall the universe one day bend to our whim.

^What's wrong with that? Well to start off, secular humanism is not a religion. No one worships intelligence/humans, and secular humanists don't seek to make members of the human species gods. As far as I can tell anyway.

Right, we denounce the worship of any god and invalidate their existence, only to turn around and deify something else. Makes total sense... to a theist.

The thought of not worshiping something, not having faith, and not seeing something as some sort of god is SO foreign to a theist that they simply cant comprehend the concept. Immediately its "oh you must pray to science/evolution" or "your god Darwin". It just makes me

Take away answers based on faith, and wouldn't you then default to evidence & reason? Isn't this the entire point of the Enlightenment?
I'm not too fond of "Secular Humanism" myself. It seems to just be a step removed from religion, instead doing everything that is best for humans. I personally think other life and information should also be considered to have value, even if it has no gain for human life.

Exactly, if you wanted to subscribe to a "meaning of life", this would be it. The pursuit of knowledge for the sake of knowledge.

Side note: A true understanding of the Bible would teach you that the assumption that God wishes to be "worshiped" is absurd...
