you don't pay anything from what i remember. if you plan on playing multiplayer online or paying for content. course i have my HL- Counterstrike key saved on there and i haven't played in years. I can go back anytime and re-download everything i've ever bought anytime and not have to worry about NOT having the game disc
Steam is just for legit games, right? For instance, can I use steam to play a pirated game online, serious question. I've always assumed it to be a legit only service, hopefully i may be wrong

I've had to deal with steamed shit a few times. For offline games you can use steam emulators (don't have to install steam at all) and cracked EXEs pretty much like normal. However, online is trickier and I really wouldn't recommend playing on official servers with a non-legit copy. Cracked servers is another thing, but official? No. VAC is ruthless.
Of course, since I'm not an expert in steamed shit, I can't say for sure. Someone might have found a way to circumvent VAC.

Yeah i've always been kind of weary of that shit. I know how copyright laws work with having pirated software period, but I've always wondered the legal ramifications of entering these gaming networks with pirated copies.

If you like a game enough to play online, buy it.
I'm too cheap to buy games nowadays, so i guess I'm stuck with private servers and buggy test boxes lol
That friend of mine who wanted me to find places to download games was asking if he'd be able to play them online for when he gets teh innernets. I wasn't sure. I've watched friends play their Xbox things online and they just seem to fly off into a higher level of rage than normal, lol.
Steam is great. You can go to any computer, login, and download any game youve ever purchased. The forums are all centralized, so finding community tech support is much easier. It's network helps publishers push updates faster and convinces them to keep their software patched more often. Its also nice having a buddy list that lets you communicate with people in game as well as seeing what theyre playing. Last but not least, they have TONS of sales and package deals which actually make you want to buy stuff.
Steam is a massive overpriced price of shitty DRM that gets in the way of you and your games.
But it's also a really nice system for storing your games in one, centralised account. If it wasn't for the price and for the fact that a game you bought in the shop now suddenly becomes inextricably tied to your steam account like buying from a brick and mortar should give the publishers permission to dictate where you play it, for life, and blocks trade ins, then Steam would be fucking great. But I don't like not being able to trade in games, so since I got 50mbit internet again, I'm pirating EVERYTHING first and buying later. Did this with Dungeon Defenders, that was literally 2 hours after installing the pirated version, I'd bought it on Steam (great game). There is no chance I'm paying £40 for Skyrim, £30, yes, but I'll wait for it to be £20 like Oblivion. My mates pay £40 for thier console games, therefore I refuse on the pure principal of the lack of licensing fees on the pc, to pay as much as console games.
But yes, when steam have a blockbuster on sale for £5, it's worth getting.
I dont knows?
skyrim?
