Cats are incredibly clean animals. They bury their shit and will not shit in their immediate surroundings (unless of course, they're desperate). Mine has a litter tray in the house for such emergencies, but she detests using it. You can see the indignation on her face.
Cats are also a lot easier to look after than dogs. They only need feeding and the occasional bit of attention (at a bare minimum) whereas dogs are very needy. Not to say I don't like dogs or anything. I'd love a dog right now but it's not ideal.
