Well someone just blew up their airport, doesn't matter who.
it's a pretty solid excuse to go to war and the best kind of war is a war of acquisition.

now their military is a shadow of it's former self so only weak neighboring states will do.

this would actually happen (and did) without the military power of the US acting as a deterrent.
