its a funny spoof, but the premise is faulty. Doom 3 tried giving the series a more tactical edge (it pitch black any you could only equip a flashlight or gun at one time) and reworked the gameplay (monster lockers instead of monster being spawned at the beginning) and i liked the game, but it wasn't amazing overall. But Id would never attempt to make a Doom combat sim, which is what Call of Duty attempts to be. Also, Doom was originally released as shareware, which is a precursor to DLC imo.
and this isn't really a dig directed at you tuoni, you fucking finn know-it-all hipster, just an overall opinion I have.
PS finn hipster is the only dig, cool find though.

The makers made it as a jab at today's gaming in general (particularly FPSs): scripted, linear, dumbed-down-just-follow-instructions, shallow, confined, regenerating health, etc. Take a classic such as Doom and "remake" it with the standards of today.
PS. Doom 3 was a pile of shit. Mediocre as an independent game with no relation whatsoever to Doom, but as a sequal to Doom and Doom 2 ... absolute rubbish. A "tactical edge," pffffftt! Give me a break.

Lols, more tactical than carrying an arsenal of weapons at all times. Its specifically more "tactical" than the previous Dooms where you basically walked into a room and blasted anything that moved, and I would say the Marine guy is more pussified in Doom 3 than Doom 1 and 2 in an effort to make him more "realistic."
I liked the spookiness of Doom 3. I don't know, its hard to explain, but if you can get over its called Doom but it doesn't act like Doom, from the beginning to the end the game is interesting.

^ It used nothing but cheap and lame tricks, nothing spooky or thrilling about it. Then again, maybe that's what "horror" fans like, a fix of adrenaline.
And yes, walking into a room and blasting everything that moves is pretty much what made Doom so much fun, especially since it was actually difficult and challenging, despite it ridiculously simple concept. And even such an ancient game as Doom is still a helluva lot nore non-linear than most FPSs these days. Sad, so sad.
If you liked it, great, at least someone got some enjoyment out of it.

I'm not much of a horror fan, I prefer thrill and suspense ... not fear and scare. However, I still find Alone In The Dark (the first one is the only one I've played), Resident Evil (also the first one), Clive Barker's Undying, System Shock, Realms Of The Haunting, and probably a bunch of other games, a lot more thrilling, creepier, and enjoyable than Doom 3. They didn't make you jump out of your chair grabbing your chest in pain as you're having a heart attack, but they were still a lot spookier.
I guess it depends on what type of "horror" you prefer. Subtle yet masterful Béla Lugosi as Dracula ... or a jab of adrenaline.
