“We know there must be change,” Doig said in a recent interview. “We’re all running flat out, we’re all just trying to stay ahead of the immediate day-to-day demands.”
Canada’s universal health care system is not giving patients optimal care, Doig added. When her colleagues from across the country gather at the CMA conference in Saskatoon Sunday, they will discuss changes that need to be made, she said.
“We all agree the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize,” she said. Gosh...how could a system that has to draw people from a lottery just to be on a family doctor's patient list be a fail?
The reasons our system is failing are:
1. Budget cuts. Politicians are constantly slashing the health care budget and giving themselves raises.
2. Outsourcing. An upcoming trend in our healthcare system is the outsourcing of any jobs which aren't immediately tied to patient care ( food services, housekeeping, laundry, building maintenance, the list goes on). This wouldn't be a problem except for the simple fact that handing this kind of stuff over to the private sector ends up costing more.
3. Wimps. Wimps who run to the emergency ward every time they get a headache or a minor boo-boo. Go into any emergency ward waiting room. I'd bet that at least half of those fuckers are there to get a Tylenol or a band-aid, and they really do consume a lot of the hospital's resources.
4. Beauracracy. Hospitals are full of overpaid douchebags in suits who spend lots of healthcare money giving catered presentations on how the system can save a couple bucks (let's cut someone else's salary!). If we cut the suits' salaries by 20k a year (and they'd still be rich), millions of dollars could go towards actually treating the ill.
5. Waste. Hospitals throw out or give away tons of shit. Surplus equipment, computers, office furniture (usually replaced every couple years)... you wouldn't believe.
6. The way budgets are assigned. The hospital I work in was in the black one year, and in order to get more money for the next year they had to go into the red. So they remodeled (Only two years before the place was torn down!). A system like this encourages retarded spending.
It really is a workable system, but a little discipline with taxpayers' money needs to be exercised.

Our system is fucked because of the greedy cunts in the US who use our system as a scare tactic to avoid real health care in the US. Anyone retarded enough to take the word of a company that makes money from health is a goddamned moron.
