Is an online courtship the same as IRL? Should online flirting be topped off with international flights and a marriage? You tell me!
All hail TAN fans
. I'm here today because of a great tragedy. A terrible, evil, destructive affliction has struck my best friend, and I feel powerless to stop it. I don't know it's official name, but it could strike any one of you at any time.A few
days ago, my friend, lets call him Dick, told me he's getting married in October, which struck me as strange considering he doesn't have a girlfriend. "So, you've finally found a mail-order bride you like,
I hope you and your purchase are very happy together"
I said, only half joking. "No, you fucking knacker"
he said, "I'm marrying a girl I know on-line, she's from Texas"
. Now, I know America has been hit by a
tough depression, but I didn't think brides were one of their exports just yet.Dumbstruck
, I replied "B-b-but you haven't even met her!"
He looked me in the eye-almost-and with a
straight face said "I've known her for four years..... on-line"
. I'm not used to this type of stupidity coming
from him-well, I am, just not at this level, well I kinda am. Normally, he's really sensible, but this siren has him hooked. There is literally no talking to him, it's like he's under a spell. Now
, I'm not trying to denigrate her, to be honest I haven't met her either so I can't say what
type of person she is. I think mrbigs words were "srsly though, take him to the pub, explain about the birds
and bees, and cam whores",
but cam whores aren't my worry. He's never fucking met her, that's my worry.
She could be the nicest woman on the planet and not be compatible with him, but all he has to go on is her on line persona, which we all know can sometimes/many times/most of the time bear no resemblance to the real person scratching their arse in front of the screen. Couple that with the fact that 150% (not sure of the exact figure) of US weddings end in divorce and the fact that pre-nups have no legal standing here, this little craziness could end up costing him a shit-load of cash. If I thought I could get half of his house for a shag and a few blow-jobs, I'd pay for Thisisj3ff to come over. So, what do I do? Is he making the correct decision? Should he actually meet his future wife before he marries her, or are arranged marriages making a come-back?
When I asked him what the rush was, he said he thinks she's "the one", but then again he said that about all the other harlots he's gone out with, and he's been with a few er, specimens, until they ripped out his heart that is. I've said I'll support him whatever he does, I just don't want him to make a huge mistake.
I'll be giving him the link for this so be brutally honest
in your comments, if anyone needs to be told,
