A few quick thoughts on the state of the Union.
Approximately 8 months ago the US voted for change. Change what exactly, no one was sure. But damned if we were going to stay the course of policy that drove the country to economic collapse. Not to mention a foreign policy which made us, if not the most hated country in the world, at least the most ridiculed. We had to rid ourselves of the dullard, Bush as president and the fascist Cheney as vice. Along with a collection of advisors and department heads who only lent credence to David Icke and his theories of reptilian shape shifting aliens.
I should allow that perhaps Bush wasn't so bad in that he hadn't invoked some obscure war powers directive to be declared Emperor for life. Something many believed Cheney was keen on and had even planned an executive hunting trip to celebrate.
Initially, it seemed we could put our tin foil hats back in the closet. After all, Obama is an articulate, highly educated, African American, half Muslim, raised by a white grandmother who presumably cooked apple pies and knitted American flags for her Ladies church group. It doesn't get better than that. The Muzzies won't hate us any more, the regular negroes wouldn't be uppity, we would have free health care, the EU, Russia and the Chinese would apply for statehood and we'd only need a military for parades and such.
The world has indeed changed. Although, not quite along those lines.
It honestly isn't Obama's fault the economy went in the shitter, but based on the predicament a new form of government is emerging. Perhaps by design, (glances toward the closet) or perhaps by necessity. A government, which due to the evaporation of middle class wealth has become the provider. Banks going under, the Fed pays the bill. Automotive industry hits the skids, the US government buys GM. Lose your job, no problem, your unemployment benefits will be extended indefinitely. Lose your home, fuck it, you didn't need it anyway. Really need a job, you'll get put on repainting the Capitol. Need some stimulus, they got a trillion. By the time that's spent, nearly every mother's son will be dependent on Lady Liberty's left tit. Seeing as, so far, all that has been shelled out only represents 10% of what has been earmarked for economic recovery.
Who provides all this cash? It's a sort of economic voodoo known only to guys with Phd's who wear sorceror hats and live in towers. I can't even pretend to understand it. Maybe the Gov will buy up all the private industry and everybody will work for them. Which is ok, because I hear they have good benefits. In a sense, the nation will become a welfare state in which we exist by the good graces of the administration. The idea would have been disturbing 8 years ago. More disturbing that, .. it isn't so much today.
The Muzzies still hate us. racism is still an issue, health care is,... who the fuck knows, and it seems we need more nukes than ever. The only obvious point of change is a numbness. A numbness incurred by being overwhelmed, not knowing where we are going while hoping to hell, someone does.
Welcome to the Obama-Nation.
Note: I know I should have expanded on this, but I have to be somewhere and felt inclined to wrap it up. Beside that, you fuckers, collectively, have the attention span of a
can of broccoli.
