There's no excuse for anyone buying digital content over retail content. If you buy digital content you're a fucking cocksucker.
"By contrast, he said, Chinese firms were still seeing improved profits.
What makes the difference between Western firms and Chinese developers was the way they went about getting products to players.
Western publishers, said Mr Williams, still relied on the traditional develop methods of putting a game on a DVD and then selling that through retail channels.
Chinese developers focused primarily on the PC market and used direct download, rather than retail stores, to get games to consumers.
Those Chinese developers were also helped by the low number of console users in South East Asia (other than Japan) which meant developers there did not have to pay royalties to console makers."
Now we're getting somewhere. The Chinese make most of their video gaming revenue via DD services and via MMO revenue. Well, MMO's are for poofs and the Chinese aren't known for their exemplary standards of citizens rights and free trade.
Gametap report that they too are making record sales and profits. So, why are developers moaning like fuck?
"Console sales are slowing and new software sales are down 2.8 percent -- but with used software sales up 31.9 percent, major specialty retailer GameStop is seeing sales up."
This is rather revealing. Used software sales are up 31%? So, people are still buying games, despite there being a financial struggle worldwide, they're just not buying new games? So, evidently, developers and publishers aren't making as much money. So, the answer to this is digital distribution? This is better for gamers? Allow me to speak for anyone who plays games. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK? The answer is to remove our right, OUR FUCKING RIGHT, to free trade? Am I reading this correctly? It's in our best interests to relinquish our right to freely trade and sell our games, because the industry says so? I don't believe I agree to that, Industry.
Check the picture they're painting. Because we enjoy the right to sell on our games and buy preowned for cheaper than what a new title is it's in our best interests to stop doing that and buy all our games digitally? What the fuck are they going to do? Stop selling games? Yeah, that'll work alright. Cut your nose off to spite your face? More like cutting off your dick to spite the missus. There's only one loser there. You, the missus will find another cock to ride. Another breed of developers and publishers would soon fill the niche in the market and they'll have to fill it with the knowledge that we won't be fucked with, we pay their wages and ultimately, we're in control.
What happens to the money you spend on games? The traditional retail model allows for that £50 ($60) you just spend on games to be recouped. Hell, some games can increase in value over time. With Digital Distribution services, that money is gone. Straight up fucking gone. Value or Microsoft take your money and that's it. They outright refuse to allow you to sell on your games. This is a huge violation of rights to free trade. I'm honestly surprised this hasn't been picked up on and I seem to be the only person slightly disgruntled by this. For everyone person I find that agrees, I find 10 more retards who proclaim "Why do I want to sell my games anyway?" These people shouldn't be allowed an opinion if that's how they're going to use that right. Sure, you may not like to, but you should defend everyone else's right to do so.
Developers and publishers are desperately trying to create this impression that they needs to move to Digital Distribution in order to save themselves, but a multibillion dollar industry that's been going for years doesn't just collapse. Those twenty-four billion pounds per year aren't going to vanish. The video game industry is steadily growing year by year. The frightening thing is that people actually swallow this horseshit and proclaim their love for services like Steam or Impulse. Well, I for one proclaim that those people are pathetic little cunts who don't think for themselves. These are warning signs that unless we as gamers, and more specifically, the older generation that actually know what the fuck is going on, do something about this and stand up and make ourselves heard, then in 5 years time retail games may just be gone and we'll be forced to keep shitty games forever. I don't know about you guys, but when I pay full whack for a game that's total fucking shit (I'm looking at you, Far Cry 2, Jericho, Velvet Assassin, Gears of War, Brothers in Arms, Overlord II, C&C Red Alert 2) then I want to get rid of it. If you buy it through Steam or XBL, then you're fucked. Well done, you just paid $10/£10 more for the game than it would be in a retail store (more true for UK buyers) and you can't get anything back on it. I'd say "ha, fucking serves you right, you stupid douche" but it's actually not even funny.
Which brings me nicely to my last point. The price. How the fuck do they get away charging more for Digital Downloads than they do a retail copy? Prime examples Dawn of War II is £29.99 on Steam, £19.99 in shops. Call of Duty 4 is still £34.99 on Steam, but only £24.99 in retail shops. There is no retail overhead and no production of box, book and disc cost. so what the fuck? This is in my best interest? Paying more for games with little to show for it and no way of recouping my money?
This is a long rant. What the actual fuck is going on?
