While TAN floods with mediocre news stories and boring articles I thought I'd present to you my humble blog, enjoy and feel free to follow suit.
I'm lost in todays translation of the music scene while some tunes I can appreciate I still get the feeling that it's never gonna be as good it once was, so today I present to you some songs of old and some new-ish that you may or may have not heard before hoping that it will entertain. I also think it would be cool if other TAN members would do similar blogs submitting their own favourites in music as a ploy to promote what they like, get to know each others tastes and influences, spreading the wealth of musical awesomeness that other TAN members may have not heard before.
Feel free to roll a doobie and drop out to some of the greatest tunes that have entertained my existence.
1. Country Joe And The Fish - Death Sound Blues
Having only discovered Country Joe earlier this year this has been one of the best songs I have heard in a long time.
2. The Small Faces - The Universal
Probably my favourite Faces tune even though it's an unlikely classic has always been a part of a soundtrack to my early pot smoking days as a care free 18 year old who's only wish was to be a lazy fuck and enjoy life... "working doesn't seem to be perfect the thing for me so I continue to play", best line in the song.
3. Jimi Hendrix - Redhouse (the rare and rawest faster version of the song)
You know you are a shit hot gutiar player when you can pull something off as awesome as this, best guitar player ever? Most definately.
4. Yer Blues - Dirty Mac
With all the recent talk here on TAN of The Beatles being crap 'n all, here's an awesome version of a classic played on the Stones Rock 'n Roll Circus, all star cast included, John Lennon, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton and Mitch Mitchell on drums.
5. Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well
This is the true Fleetwood Mac before they became pompous and shit.
6. Canned Heat - Amphetamine Annie
It's cool that some chicks dig sex, drugs and rock 'n roll but some bitches just don't know when to stop.
7. Mick Jagger - Memo From Turner
Love the Stones but this probably is one of my favourite songs ever. Dirty, sleazy and pure unadulterated rock 'n roll filth, you couldn't ask for more, Ry Cooder on slide guitar is just an additional bonus.
8. John Martin - Easy Blues Medley
Bought this guys album "Solid Air" a few years ago at a time when I almost had given up hope finding perfect albums having everything best out there that had to offer, definatley a great disc for chillin' out to, perfect from start to finish.
9. Aaron Neville - Hercules
I enjoy a taste in certain raw early 70's funk, the bass and drums in this are just sublime and the lyrics... just listen to the damn song.
10. The Clash - Police and Thieves
Any Clash fans here on TAN, I fucking love the Clash and this is one of the gems from their UK debut album, very political and the lyrics still apply today.
11. The Only Ones - Another Girl Another Planet
Keeping with the punk thing the music video for this is pure genious to an awesome tune combing comic book and rock 'n roll.
12. Violent Femmes - Add It Up
Another underrated band who not many really know of, I turned a lot of people on to the album this is from with the Femmes take on acoustic punk, who say's you need heavy gutiars to make music sound thrashing?
13. Barry Mc Guire - Eve Of Destruction
Political 60's tune which the lyrics also stand true today, love the gravel of his voice as he rips this song out.
14. The Flaming Lips - Brainville
An early song from a band who are pretty well known today though I don't if many people are aware of this classic.
15. Daniel Johnston - Fish
I recommend people should watch the documentary "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" which is very good, this is a song I got from a music magazine's free cd a few years back which I liked at the time and not really knowing much about the artist untill recently when I saw the film, check the film out if you can.
16. Mercury Rev - Goddess On A Highway
Haven't much from this band since but their album from way back wasn't bad.
17. The Doors - Five To One
If there's ever an uprise against the governments of this world, this would be my anthem of choice, take it away Jim Morrison and stick it to the man...
18. The Grateful Dead - Truckin'
Not much of a "Dead" fan but I like this tune
19 The Kinks - Dead End Street
Ahh... the recession, here's an ode to unemployment and poverty from an underrated band from the 60's called the Kinks.
20. Donovan - Sunny Goodge Street
Now for something really mellow, I'll probably get ripped for posting this but fuck you all I think the song is awesome.
21. The Band - The Weight
This song gives me goosebumps every fucking tme, all the backing singers, the musicianship, everything is just "right".
22. The Sex Pistols/Sid Vicious - My Way
It's inexplicable how important the Sex Pistols were/are but here's one from the most talentless fuckwit out of a band of talentless fuckwits - pure class.
23. The Specials - You're Wondering Now
A personal favourite to conclude my blog of tunes, a good way to finish with "the end" in the lyrics.
So there it is, please feel inclined to add your own music links in the comments or make similar blogs.
