On June 4th 1989 the protests led by students and intellectuals and labour activists against the ruling communist party in the People’s Republic of China were ended by that same People’s Republic of China when it sent in it’s soldiers and tanks. If you were old enough that day you’ll probably still remember the images of people being shot, busses burnt, dead being carried away. One of the most famous images ever to be beamed across this earth is that of the lone man and his bags stopping a line a tanks from entering the square. No one knows exactly how many protesters were killed by their own army that day and in present day China the Tianamen Square massacre is known as the June 4th incident. China has also taken it upon themselves to shut down all internet sites which reports on this anniversary. So much for the Olympics bringing democracy to the China.
